Suggested Lessons or Activities:

Use the above resource in probability experiments. You can choose one to ten coins at the same time to flip and see what happens. Discuss the outcomes when you flip only one coin. The two outcomes are equally likely. You have 1:2 chance of getting Heads or Tails. This means that if you flip a coin one hundred times, you would expect about 50 Heads and 50 Tails. In such an experiment, getting 100 Tails and 0 Heads is possible but extremely unlikely. Flipping 2 coins would have 4 different possible outcomes (Tails=T, Heads=H):

HH
HT
TH
TT

Therefore, the chance of getting double heads (HH) is 1:4.

Flipping 3 coins would have 8 different possible outcomes (Tails=T, Heads=H):
HHH
THH
HTH
HHT
TTH
THT
HTT
TTT
Therefore, the chance of getting triple heads (HHH) is 1:8.
