Drag Drop Spell - Spelling the Names of Shapes and Solids

© R. Mirshahi

Instructions:

  • Read the instructions and look at the Drag and drop the letters into appropriate boxes to spell the names of 2-D shapes and 3-D solids.

Suggested Lessons or Activities:

  • This program is a great exercise to help students identify 2-D shapes and 3-D solids and spell their names correctly. This resource allows the student to spell the words in any way they want focussing on different parts of the word (e.g., initial and final sounds, etc.) and get credit for every letter they spell correctly. This non-linear method of spelling is very useful both for teaching and learning purposes. For example, encourage the students to look for smaller words in the names of shapes and solids. For example:

are in square
trap and ape in trapezoid
bus in rhombus
an and angle in triangle
tangle in rectangle
pen, tag, and on in pentagon
go and ago in hexagon
is in prism
am, ram, and amid in pyramid
he, her, and here in sphere
one in cone (it has one face and one vertex)
cub and be in cube
in in cylinder

This resource has been used very successfully with an ASD student.

Special Features:

  • full screen
  • 2D and 3D graphics
  • ability to animate the shapes and solids to see differnt types of the same shape or different views of the same solid
  • scoreboard (highest score is 215)
  • annotation
  • You can spell the words in any way you wish.
  • works very well with Interactive Whiteboards
