Shapes, Patterns, and Mosaic Designs

Instructions:

  • Click on the square tiles to change them. A square tile can be solid yellow, blue or half and half. Keep clicking until you have the desired tile. You may also try 5 other different styles (animated, bendy, diagonal, circular, and floral designs)

Suggested Lessons or Activities:

  • Make shapes and study area. For example, you may ask the students to make a shape or several shapes with specific areas (e.g., Make a triangle with the area of 2 square units).
  • Make a shape inside another shape (e.g., a yellow trapezoid inside a blue triangle)
  • Make patterns as well as symmetrical and repeating designs.
  • Create a visual representation of a simple repeating pattern such as 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, ... where these repeating numerals represent the number of clicks in different tiles. See the table at the bottom of this page. Give this a try and make an awesome pattern!

Special Features:

  • Full screen
  • 6 different styles to make a variety of simple as well highly intricate shapes, designs, and patterns

Here are some patterns that were made with the resource above:

Here the challenge was to make 7 different shapes on the same grid and come up with a problem for other students to solve.
